(EN) NEW OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY CHATBOTS: THE EXAMPLE OF GREEK BOTAKIS

botakis will be on Saturday, March 11 at 12:00 a.m. in i-bank store at The Mall Athens. (Https://her.is/2lwgsHd)

Through an interactive presentation you will learn all about the new applications, the chatbots and how you can make your own bot in 5 minutes with botakis network https://botakis.net/

botakis is a chatbot, in other words a program , that simulates a natural conversation with people over the internet and specifically – for now – through the Facebook Messenger. The chatbots aim to service users and more specifically can book a hotel, order a meal, buy your ferry or plane ticket, check in for a flight, tell you the weather, find your table in a restaurant, tell you the news and more useful. Imagine being able to make a flight reservation with a simple message in an airline and pay with a simple process. It seems that they can replace the telephone call, the fax, email and visiting a website. Amazing ?

Obviously, chatbots will change the way we use our smartphone. Instead of opening up many different applications or websites, with a small order, we will be able to perform everything you want via the Facebook Messenger. So gradually chatbots expected to replace applications in mobile and why not websites. And as many mobiles have the ability to speak and write the message, in practice we will be talking to botakis and he will serve us!

Chatbots could also become an important tool for small local businesses, many of which lack the resources to build standalone applications or websites. Chatbots could help them to have a stronger web presence and be more accessible to a larger audience by providing information or making sales. Our country has many businesses and professionals, in which chatbots could help, such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, lawyers, doctors and so on. There are many interesting business cases which will see very soon be implemented.

Imagine doing in this way some shopping, banking movements, serve you as a customer, ordering food, exchanging money, the donation for a charitable purpose, to buy and sell shares. Chatbots are applications that live on the user’s Messenger and are developed and selfimproved thereby becoming more accurate and “smart”. So they understand better and will make your work directly.

botakis is the system of implementation of chatbots of  Crowdpolicy. For now you can talk with him to see how he can work on request and invitation (invite only), as is currently running a trial version. Soon, botakis will work for businesses and professionals and will be able to serve their users and customers for a wide range of activities.

Crowdpolicy is the first company in Greece that has botakis for immediate application and use by anyone. We believe that chatbots will largely replace other forms of user interaction with organizations such as apps, web site, mobile site, phone, sms etc., and is the subject of a key business area of Crowdpolicy.

Talk to botakis in www.botakis.com. Tell him “Hello”.

Fintech Global Tour goes to Greece to find both local & global innovation-Financial markets in Greece

A strained and chocked financial sector, functioning under Capital Controls for two years (this June) that has priced in the probability of a Grexit (for the third time in 7 yrs). All banks, except for Alpha Bank (Euros 1,63), have become penny stocks with National Bank of Greece trading around 0,25 Euros! Eurobank, who was traditionally the aggressive player in the Greek Banking sector, trading around 0,55 Euros

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Greece has the potential to become a Fintech hub, starting from the necessity to solve many problems that are idiosyncratic to the current conditions. From offering digital identities to immigrants, to issuing a cryptocurrency as a parallel currency, to small Business solutions (working capital, import-export trade etc),….

Greece has been witnessing an accelerated rate of exports of high skilled people (doctors, engineers, programmers etc). Greeks are technically strong and creative; and therefore, an ideal fit to be part of an innovative ecosystem. Funding, regulatory and government support; are the only missing ingredients.

The Fintech process has started shyly in Athens over the past 6 months. The National Bank of Greece launched an accelerator program in November last year, BeFinnovative, which resulted in 9 Fintech startups who are part of the program. Most of the areas are Consumer banking and wealth management (see a list here). Just last week, Interfima and the National Bank of Greece organized the first Fintech Forum in Athens. The event had participants from all over Europe and Chris Gledhill delivered the Keynote with a theme on “Disruption”.

Just this past weekend Eurobank held its second BeyondHackathon with more than 130 participants from the Balkan region. Eurobank has a presence in 7 countries. I was honored to deliver the Keynote with a theme “On the Fintech Runway” (you can watch it here) to a packed room.

Eurobank has a full stack digitization roadmap already in place and Sotiris Sirmakezis, who is leading the Digital innovation across the board, has a powerful vision of the transformation journey over the next two years.

Fintech in Greece and out of Greece

The Fintech sector is just emerging but Insurtech is leading! Oseven  is 2yrs old and has taken a behavioral analytics approach to a user-centric telematics insurance offering. Oseven was a winner in the European Fintech awards in 2016 along with Knip, Funding Circle and Kreditech. They have moved their headquarters in London.

In consumer banking, the leader is Viva Wallet. With a rich offering both for retail and for businesses.  It is the first Greek mobile wallet that enables payment in online stores, mobile apps and physical stores. Viva Wallet is branching out into the Balkans and has a roadmap to grow further. Their most recent offering to businesses owners cuts the cost of card processing by 20%. See details here. Viva Wallet also runs an incubator, Viva Nest, that is very active presence in the startup scene.

In wealth management, there are two mature Fintechs that have a global customer base. Logical invest (we have covered extensively in the past) who is a signal provider for DIY investors and who is an example of a decentralized business founded and operated by three partners in three different locations  – Greece, Switzerland, and US. Zulu Trade, is one of the top global social trading platforms.

Fintech list by vertical

Fintech with Greeks

For the Greek diaspora (which is not negligible in size and influence) who wants to follow the Greek Fintech ecosystem, there is a Fintech Greece linkedin group that one can join.

There are plenty of noteworthy Greeks who are part of the international Fintech scene in various capacities, e.g. Leda Glytpis, Spiros Margaris, Nektarios Lolios, and many more.

Fintech a la Greque

I would like to start a wish list of the kinds of innovations that should and could come out of Greece. Please, add on to this wish list:

  • Chris Gledhill: A blockchain voting tech would be good from the birthplace of democracy. A digital Crypto drachma (albeit politically sensitive).
  • Spiros Margaris: The Greek government should internationally promote Greece as a source for highly-qualified tech talent. It would help Greece, and it would help European companies to close the talent gap. That’s what I call a win-win proposition. Greece also ranks very high in the EU in SME innovation (see visual below).
  • My own wishes: A bank for refugees, A HellasCoin – a broad cryptocurrency, an innovative solution for income from illiquid assets (i.e. Greek real estate).

A few words about Smartcity

The effort to define the term “smart city” resulted in three axes:Dimensions of a SmartCity

The first axis presents the “smart city” as a compendium of technological factors, natural infrastructures, smart technologies, mobile telephony technologies, digital and enhanced technology solutions and, finally, digital networks. All these factors result in:  Digital city, Intelligent city, Ubiquitous city, Wired city, Hybrid city, Information city.

The second axis concerns social factors such as Municipalities and the institutional and regulatory framework. These social factors result in smart communities and smart growth.

Finally, the third axis is man because through the human and social capital of the city, Creative city, Learning city, Humane city και Knowledge city are generated. This holistic approach defines the smart city phenomenon.

The three-day innovation competition resulted in solutions covering all the smartcity axes.  In particular, the innovative applications that were developed are related to smart transportation, smart health care, smart safety, smart energy, smart environment and other organizational solutions for municipalities. All this provides an excellent example proving that this is not a theoretical approach, but all this is achieved by innovators who are optimistic and show us that they can create the city of tomorrow today!

Realizing the Potential of Blockchain

A Multistakeholder Approach to the Stewardship of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies

Blockchain, or distributed ledger technology, could soon give rise to a new era of the Internet even more disruptive and transformative than the current one. Blockchain’s ability to generate unprecedented opportunities to create and trade value in society will lead to a generational shift in the Internet’s evolution, from an Internet of Information to a new generation Internet of Value. The key to enabling this transition is the formation of a multistakeholder consensus around how the technology functions, its current and potential applications and how to create the regulatory, cultural and organizational conditions for it to succeed.

The Municipality of Heraklion will launch the Structured Public Consultation Mechanism for proposals and ideas to be implemented, in the context of shaping and highlighting in a participatory way its needs and priorities in terms of municipal projects and actions.

The Consultation Mechanism (which is not mandatory for our Municipality by law) will be provided to the public through a modern digital tool, the online platform that will be accessible at the link http://84.205.229.127/ethelontismos/.

The platform invites all interested citizens, the residents of the Municipality as well as collective bodies to submit their views on the projects and actions that are proposed by the Municipality or propose their own ideas on projects to be implemented. In addition to proposing ideas, the users of the platform will have the opportunity to comment on the already posted proposals in order to start a constructive dialogue on various topics concerning the Municipality and the provided services.

In addition, the Consultation platform will serve as the main tool for the participatory shaping of Developmental Projects and Actions Programs, as well as for highlighting and visualizing the needs, ideas and proposals of the local community.

Through the Consultation platform, the Municipality aims to promote and strengthen the involvement of citizens and bodies, the rationale of co-shaping actions that make up its strategy, while at the same time it supports collective decision-making on the design and implementation of actions.

The online platform is based on innovative and participatory technologies (Crowdapps) that promote the active involvement of citizens and collective bodies at local level. For more information, please visit http://www.heraklion.gr/ and http://84.205.229.127/ethelontismos/.

Through the implementation of the project “Study for the design and development of a platform for searching and managing business innovation resources“, the General Secretariat for Industry aims to implement a digital platform and processes that will actively support enterprises in the broader sectors of industry and crafts as well as in the ICT sector.

The platform will support the networking and match making for the exploitation of innovative technologies and processes in the above-mentioned enterprises. The users of the innovation resources market can be enterprises of all sizes, freelancers, startups, medium-sized and large companies, and any other party interested in receiving or providing innovative services for the development of products and services. It should be noted that it is not necessary for the users –  recipients to be enterprises, but they can also be companies that are in the process of being set up and groups in the following sectors: Processing – industry – crafts and ICT.

Crowdpolicy is the contractor of the project for the formulation of specifications on operational and technical level, as well as the organization of a participatory workshop – hackathon, through which the participants will be informed and propose ideas on the optimal design of the project.

Do you have an idea? Organise your steps and work on it !

$

0

On the occasion of mentoring on entrepreneurship in a high school lesson, I am recording a few thoughts that answer the following question:

I have an idea. Now what?

You certainly do not keep it secret and do not put it in the drawer because if you do, then, it is worth nothing. Try to work it out, discuss it, get useful advice and start implementing it. Then, list some useful tools and methodologies that will help you implement your idea and see what it is really worth.

I have an idea. What is it worth?

Ideas alone are worth nothing. In addition to this, there is no unique idea. Whatever you have thought of has surely been realised somewhere else and hundreds of other people in the world have the same idea as you do. How can you find out? Google it !

I have an idea but I am not sure of it.

Check out the Startup Idea Matrix.

Startup Idea Matrix

It is a useful matrix that can help you shape your business idea. On the vertical axis, you can see the sectors of the economy and, on the horizontal axis, the innovations and changes that one can design. It depicts existing known and large companies in the cells created. Note, however, that many cells are blank and may be waiting for you to implement this innovation. Food for thought for the next crowdhackathons.

I have an idea. How do I turn it into a business?

A really useful tool is the Business Model Canvas of Strategyzer. It helps transform an idea into a proper business proposition. The table presents in two axes the basics of a business plan organised into four key modules: Value proposition, Customer, Infrastructure, and Profit Equation.

The Business Model Canvas

Business Model Canvas is a popular visual tool for designing the strategic development of a business idea. It is especially useful to a startup because it helps you see the business opportunity behind the idea in a structured way.

Download the template here.

How do I organise my time?

Time is a key parameter. Besides, a manager’s job is to manage limited resources, ie time, people, money.

You have to organise work into work packages spread over time and set milestones that you have to respect. See a way to do it using Google Sheets. You can download a template here .

How do I organise my team?

A lot of people, a lot of tasks, now what?

To monitor the project, I recommend trello. You can see an interesting trello board here .

Admittedly, Trello is the most complete solution in its class. Actually, it helps you organise tasks and unfinished tasks through an easy-to-use interface. Trello is based on the Kanban system.

Trello allows you to create boards to which you add your tasks one by one. For example, each sector of a company could be a board. In there, cards can be created, so in our example, the different cards of a sector could relate to the various tasks it has for it, such as issuing invoices for the customer and so on. Each card in turn has text in the form of updates, deadlines, and even a list from which you can delete lines. You can attach files (either from your device or somewhere online), as well as give the right to view and / or edit the table to others, for example, if the content concerns them. Finally, for each board, there is a detailed history showing every modification made.

Trello Board

You can see various use cases at https://trello.com/inspiration.

How do I create a prototype?

We call it MVP from Minimum Viable Product.

The term “Minimum Viable Product or MVP “ has become known by Eric Ries, author of The Lean Startup, a book I would suggest you read. This term represents a way of thinking that describes the creation of partially implemented products, with the fewest possible features, in order for one to understand their functionality. This leads to the use of limited resources, time and cost. Products are quickly tested on the market to record consumer reactions. Thus, the business can make the necessary changes to eventually produce a product that truly meets people’s needs.

MVP is a methodology that generates innovation at the lowest possible cost. See more about the MakeYourMVP service at the website of Crowdpolicy.

How do I finance my idea?

Startups Funding Timeline

The picture shows the different stages of financing a new business. The way of financing depends on the maturity of the business idea and the amount of money required. See more about Crowdfunding at http://crowdpolicy.com/service/crowd-funding/.

How do I present my idea?
